Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Painting is fundamental to a child's development. Many of my students do not get the opportunities to paint or explore with art of any kind at home. Due to extremely tight budgets this school year, any extra art materials cannot be purchased by the school.
My students are bright, creative, sweet children who love to express themselves in a variety of ways.
An overwhelming majority of my students come from an extremely high poverty area of California, and they are just itching for some creative outlets!
My Project
All children, but especially Kindergarteners, need to have the opportunity for hands-on, creative play. This play helps to develop color recognition, fine and gross-motor skills, the concept of patterns, and so much more! I'm requesting a "Painting Center" for my students so that they can have the opportunity to gain the aforementioned skills, which are linked to improving a student's ability for learning to read, write, and reason mathematically.
The importance of art education is often not valued in today's schools.
Regrettably, this is stifling children's creativity at a young age, and hindering their ability to learn as they grow older. Donations to the this project will ensure that my students are given developmentally appropriate materials that support their cognitive growth. In turn, these children will have greater success in absorbing academic material, and continue to excel throughout their education.
