My students need 35 Hunger Games novels which is an engaging story that will allow us to discuss multiple themes about the human condition.

My Students

Have you ever been so wrapped up in yourself that you have failed to see what is happening to the world around you? I am seeking to expose my small town high school students to issues in our world, and themes in humanity, where they can make a difference and see the perils and promise of tomorrow.

My students this year will be 9th and 10th graders.

They mostly are low to middle class students and have few experiences outside of the small towns they live in. This a public school program in New York State, and unfortunately budget cuts are making life a lot tougher when it comes to providing these kids with a broad spectrum of educational experiences.

My Project

The Hunger Games deals with themes like loyalty, selflessness, the downfalls of human civilization, tradition vs. individuality, "the system" behind governments, and the untapped human potentials of good and evil in each of us. Discussions on this book will lead students to discover other countries and their governmental systems, as well as self discovery for their own potentials. We will also discuss the power of change. Using this novel will open up some new ideas and pathways they have not thought of before. It will also be a great novel to connect to our year long themes in class, and will provide stellar writing material for the major state test taken in their junior year of high school.

This donation will benefit students for years to come!

As the world continues to change, so will our discussions using The Hunger Games which takes place in a future society. It will be invaluable in showing the students how mankind changes as a result of governmental changes, social changes, and global effects.
