My Students

"Why do I need to know this? How is this ever going to be useful in my life?" As a physics teacher, I hear these questions all the time. Providing my students with real-world challenges and applications of physics heightens their enthusiasm for learning.

Our school is the only public school in New York to offer the rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program.

Our students are challenged to use their education to think globally about the impact they can have on the world. In tenth grade, all students complete a Personal Project of their own choosing that encapsulates all they have learned in the IB Middle Years Program.

My Project

With the Balsa Bridge Building Classroom Pack, students will be able to construct models of bridges and test their efficiency and load-bearing capacity. High-level physics and mathematical concepts will literally materialize in front of them! The opportunity to think creatively to design the most efficient bridge will reinforce the practical applications of physics and mathematics.

With your assistance, you will be providing my students with the materials needed to make high-level physics come alive in front of them and the opportunity to realize the relevance and importance of mathematics and science.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
