My Students
"If music be the food of love, play on." - William Shakespeare
My students enjoy my Music class but don't have many of the resources necessary to explore their love of music.
My students mostly come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, but these obstacles do not hamper their spirits or their thirst for knowledge.
They are exuberant learners, and they enjoy finding out new information in all fields. They especially enjoy discovering new talents, such as in Art, Athletics, or Music. They also don't get many opportunities to discover their talents, which is why I want to help provide them with as many diverse learning tools in my Music classroom as possible.
My Project
I am requesting headphones for some of the keyboards in our piano lab. These headphones will allow more students to be able to use the keyboards in the lab by allowing them to hear as they explore how to read music and play an instrument. These are vital skills for my students, especially if they plan on going into band or choir in middle and high school. These headphones also mean that students would not have to share keyboards or take turns, which can cause problems when the students are only in the lab for 45 minutes every week.
This project is important because it will provide my students with an opportunity to learn how to play an instrument properly and read music.
These types of opportunities are not things that my students would typically be able to experience because of their background and economic situations. Their piano lab experience will also help them later on in their academic careers if they pursue Music in middle school and high school as well.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
