My Students

My students are talented in the visual arts. One of their favorite mediums to work with is clay. I want to take them to the beyond hand-building. I want to teach them how to throw clay on a potter's wheel.

My students have been identified as talented in the visual arts.

They had to pass a portfolio screening, and take a state test in order to get into my program. Part of my job is to expose them to a variety of mediums, one of which is clay. Many of the enrichment activities I do with my students would not be possible without Donor's Choose. I can not afford to purchase a potter's wheel for them without your help.

My Project

I took pottery classes this summer. I know they will love learning how to throw clay on a wheel. There is nothing like the feel of clay taking shape in your hands to become a beautiful and functional piece of art. The potter's wheel I own is too heavy and cumbersome to bring to my schools. I want to share this knowledge with my students. We need a potter's wheel which is light weight, portable, and durable.

Hurricane Katrina and the recent oil spill have affected my students' lives in ways that are too numerous to list.
