Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

It's neat to learn about cool, new instruments. But having to wait in line to play is no fun. My students in pre-k through 5th grade would love to spend more time learning on Orff instruments instead of waiting for their turn to play.

I teach all students in my school.

They each spend 55 minutes in my classroom per week. My students come from a variety of backgrounds. My campus may be in an affluent area, however many, many students are living below poverty level. Most of them will not have the opportunity to play instruments, except for in my classroom.

My Project

Having 4 extra xylophones in my classroom will allow more students to play at one time. I am currently reluctant to pull out the instruments because I know that the students will not have very much play time on the instruments I currently have in my classroom. I have 2 xylophones that are in good shape and 4 that are falling apart and are disappointing for students to play. With 4 more xylophones, I may even be able to start an "Orff-estra" in the coming years.

Donations to this project will allow more students to learn about and play the xylophone.

Playing the xylophone is a relatively easy thing to learn. When students have success in music, it can give them confidence in other parts of their day. I hope that after my students learn to play the xylophone, it will lead them to be interested in more instruments.
