My Students

Technology in schools always seems to be a step (or two) behind the rest of the world. While the world has moved on to Blu-Ray, we still show VHS. This can change, and it should for the good of our students. We would love the opportunity to use iPod Touches to teach students more about the world.

Our students are among the best you will find in a middle school in Kentucky.

They are extremely kind and intelligent and are a diverse group for the area. Nearly one-quarter are special education students and about forty percent are on free or reduced lunch. Despite the challenges facing some of our students, they are among the highest performers in the state. Imagine their potential if they were able to use advanced tech tools in the classroom, like the iPod Touch... Oh, the places we could go!

My Project

We are requesting funding for two iPod Touches, part of a greater initiative for a class set of iPod Touches. The functions of the iPod Touch is nearly limitless. First, and most importantly, they are completely Internet-ready and can be used on any wireless network. They can replace traditional dictionaries and thesauruses, as well as add translators for our ESL students and gives students the ability to create classroom wiki and blog websites in class. They will also be able to e-mail classwork and quiz answers from their seat to the teacher, and listen and create podcasts and vodcasts. There are many applications that allow for access to thousands of books, maps, scientific theories, and mathematical functions. It truly is an incredible tool for modern students.

We believe that this will allow our students to experience inquiry-based learning across the curriculum and grant them classroom access to information shared around the world.

In short, they will enter the educational world of the 21st century. The iPod Touch is an incredibly versatile technology that can replace and enhance many classroom items; I believe it will be the most exciting and versatile learning tool they will ever use.
