My Students

Effective communication is vital in today's society and job market. My students need to learn how to effectively communicate in a formal and structured manner. Formal debate and public speaking are vital to our government and civic well being.

I teach at risk students in an alternative setting.

Each of my students has their own story of how they got where they are now. Some students have moved many times and are behind academically. Other students are "late bloomers" and are correcting the mistakes of their early high school years. Each student is working hard to earn their high school diploma and achieve their life's goal.

My Project

The resources I am requesting will assist students in gaining critical skills to survive in today's job market and society. Adults must be able to effectively communicate in order to get a job. They must also be able to speak in public in order to voice their opinions about government and civic life. In today's society, people tend to be scared to speak up for their cause. These materials will assist my students in getting real world experience in preparing for a speech or debate as well as actually delivering their speech. Tomorrow's leaders will learn these skills today.

Public speaking and debate were crucial elements of my high school career.

These two activities sharpened my speaking, writing, and thinking skills. My grades improved drastically because of them. Now, I would like to pass on those lessons and experiences to my students so they can be impacted in the same manner as me.
