My Students

With testing and the need to achieve at the youngest ages, children rarely get a chance to just imagine anymore. We want our students to use their imagination and creativity, just as the author promotes in this beautiful book.

As the economy has declined and the need for funding has climbed, money for resources such as new books for pleasure rather than instruction have been set aside in order to purchase basic instructional materials.

However, in our school, we end every assembly with the reminder to "read, read, read." We honor this adage with many literacy programs, aimed at promoting the love of literature and the joy of reading.

My Project

Imagine a day, a day where anything can happen. Imagine the greatest day ever. What would that day look like? That is the idea we are promoting to all the students in our school with this book. We have a Book of the Month program in which every room in the entire school from the Principal's office to the gym to the classrooms and the counseling room all have the same book to read every month. The classroom teachers read it to their classes, as do all the specialty and support teachers. This program inspires and excites the children. They simply can not wait to read or listen to the book, comment on it, discuss it, and in many cases write a book review and read it aloud during morning announcements.

Purchasing 45 copies of this book, "Imagine a Day" helps to promote literacy across all areas in all grades.

This book will be used as a springboard for writing, art, social studies and science discussions and explorations.
