My Students

Place-value is very difficult for students to learn and understand. If they don't understand place-value, they also have difficulty adding and subtracting. In order for my students to understand these concepts, they must also be fluent with basic math and subtraction facts.

My students attend a school in south Louisiana in a high poverty area.

Many students come to school with little to no supplies to start the school year. This doesn't stop them from wanting to learn as much as possible, but it is up to the educator to get all of the necessities to teach them the curriculum that is required. They attend a school where the teachers are responsible for most of the items needed to guide the students through the learning process. Our school is full of students that are eager to learn new things. As a teacher, I try to expose them to as much as possible because I know that many of them are limited to what they receive outside of school. So, whatever I can do for them to make learning exciting and memorable, I will do. My students mean the world to me and I want to make their learning exciting and meaningful.

My Project

The place-value manipulatives will serve as a tool to help my students understand numbers. This will make addition and subtraction easier for them to learn. It will also help them understand the process of adding and subtracting. In order to add and subtract, students must know their basic facts. The fact stamps will make this process easy to do. We have so much to teach in so little time, so it benefits both the teacher and students when concepts are grasped quickly. We are limited to copies, so the write and erase pockets will be so helpful for copies to be used over and over again.

These materials will be so useful when teaching math concepts to my students.

Not only will it be useful, but it will also give my students the confidence they need to learn. Math concepts are very difficult for students to understand and many give up right away when they don't understand. If there is a way to help them learn these concepts with little struggle, I want to use it. Giving students confidence in school, as well as in life, is like giving them the world.
