My students need 29 vivid picture books to foster their reading and writing skills.

My Students

Reading is thinking? Write like a reader? What does that mean? In first grade, my students will begin the journey to literacy. Vivid, good literature will provide that foundation.

My class consists of 18 first grade students, from CT ready to learn to read and write.

They are eager learners, that do not always have the materials they need. Our school district does the best they can to provide for our students, but school budgets always prove to disappoint them.

My Project

Books, books, books. What else could you ask for in a first grade class. The books selected in my project will help the students make connections, visualize text, use questioning, make inferences, and build schema. Not only will they develop essential reading comprehension skills, they will also look at author's craft. They will explore the books from cover to cover for great beginning, characters and settings, and interesting endings.

The students I have today will be the future. They need to be able to discuss books intelligently, and write a well organized and thoughtful piece. Please help my students succeed.
