My Students

Do you remember hearing the crack of the bat the first time you hit the ball? How about the first time you made a diving catch to save the game? The inner city softball team I coach is yearning for these firsts, unfortunately much of our equipment is as old as some of your first memories.

My 6th - 8th grade student athletes attend an inner city middle school in Michigan.

These girls work hard in the classroom to earn their place on the softball team, because they know representing our school through athletics is not a right but a privilege. During our season their dedication and determination allows them to learn quickly and come to love the game!

My Project

Your donations will allow our school to continue introducing inner city girls to the wonderful game of softball. Ninety-nine percent of the girls on the team have never held a softball in their hand when they come to practice the first day. Some equipment we use to develop our softball players is sub par, the bats have long lost their gripping, the letters are faded, and they do not meet ASA standards. The athletes who have earned their place on the team through academics and behavior and need a glove for their left hand are left cheering our team on from the bench, because we do not have any gloves for these athletes. The resources I am requesting will allow each student athlete an equal opportunity to learn good sportsmanship and compete in a sport previously foreign to them.

This project will continue to help make a difference in the lives of inner city girls who are eager and willing to try something new.

Three years ago the students in our community had never heard of softball before, let alone had an opportunity to play. Your donation will allow us to continue to develop a softball program with adequate equipment, that will not only help students be successful on the diamond but also give them leadership and teamwork skills that are required of us all in life.
