My Students

With all of the technology students are exposed to today - iPods, movies, computers - students still tend to miss out on what is happening in the world. The days of reading a newspaper in print seem to be disappearing quickly.

My fourth graders are no different.

They are average students that work hard and have fun. For some of my students, however, they aren't exposed to print media the way other students are. I feel it is my job to expose them to print in any way they can and to keep the art of reading a paper, rather than a screen, fresh in their young minds.

My Project

Weekly Reader magazines have always been a favorite for my students. They love the articles that are geared toward their reading level. I love seeing them read through a magazine and share with their classmates something interesting they have read. We have had some great discussions in the past surrounding an article that the students read about in the magazine. Weekly Reader also provides great comprehension checks that helps prepare students for state testing, and helps me check in with students on really important skills.

I would love to share Weekly Reader magazines with my students again this year.

I feel that current events are so important for students to pay attention to, and this is a perfect way for students to do this. Please help me help my students!
