My Students

Do you know what it is like to fail a class and have everyone believe you are truly a failure? This school year, I will be teaching a group of tenth grade students who did not pass English class last term. Some welcome into my class either feeling dejected and expecting to fail again.

These class is composed of students who did not pass 10th grade English.

They feel like nobody believes in them and no one cares if they graduate. They attend a huge school where they can easily be ignored by teachers and peers. But I see them for who they are. They are bright, young people who just need a push in the right direction, and I believe this novel will help them.

My Project

This novel, Old Men, will show them that they do not have to live up to their stereotype of being the "bad kids" or the kids who "always fail." They are being given a second chance. I wanted to be a teacher to work with the students that no one else believed in. I wanted to show them, through literature, that they can be successful in school and in life. I am not giving up on them, and by donating, you can show them that you believe in them too.

This project is important to me because this is not a book anyone teaches at my school.

I believe this book will change my students' lives and push them to want to succeed and graduate. It will also show them that stereotypes and complicated situations can be easily averted--by being successful for yourself.
