Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We love music and love to perform! Our music room is a place where we are all moving, singing, and learning. Our teacher inspires us to be creative and to have positive learning experiences. She writes the music notes of the songs we sing and we want to learn to write and compose music too!

Our class is in a high-need K-5 elementary school in Texas.

We are mostly bilingual in English and Spanish and are very happy to be in a class learning the language of music! We would like some dry erase boards, on which we can write music. Then we will be able to learn and practice writing the notes of the songs we are singing and playing on our instruments.

My Project

Our teacher says that we have been learning music through an Orff-Schwlwerk (German for active and creative) learning approach. We now are creating sounds with our voices and the Orff instruments, called glockenspiels. Musical literacy has components of first hearing music and then creating it through sounds and finally, by reading and writing musical notes. We are ready for music composition and we need your help to get the tools we need.
