My Students

Less than 450 in the whole district! You've got to be kidding me! NO, we are a small 1A rural district with a high school choir of 35 members. Our students love to play and accompany each other on the guitars, but most students don't have one.

Most of our students can't afford instruments and private lessons, especially with the economic times of today.

They are an awesome group of obedient, responsible high school students with a desire to learn music and let it become a part of their being. The high school students choose to come in the music room and practice on their own when they have spare time. An acoustic guitar is a great instrument to learn since it can be played alone and without amplification. We have several students striving to gain a music scholarship. The knowledge of an instrument added to their vocal ability will give them an edge over competitors. Since we are a 1A district, our students lack many of the experiences that are available in a 5A school.

My Project

The high school students will learn how to play a stringed instrument. They will learn how to read chords and improvise rhythms. Some students will learn how to teach their friends to play while others will learn the basics of playing. They will have the experience of accompanying singers and performing in front of an audience. Competitions are available as they become more proficient at the instrument. Last, but most important, they will have a way to express themselves. Students today have many emotional and family issues, playing and singing music is a safe outlet and brings peace to one's soul.

Learning, playing, and performing on a guitar will be a changing point in many students' lives.

Guitars are known to last for many years so they will affect numerous students. As students become proficient and graduate, they may choose to purchase their own guitar. They will sing and play the rest of their lives and continue to make a difference in people's lives. It is a ripple effect and no one knows how many people will be pleasantly touched by guitar music.
