My Students

It is so hard for preschoolers to sit and WAIT. When I need to move to another song, I have to change the cd. I have over 65 cds, but it is hard to move from one song to another when they are all on different cds.

I teach preschool children who are at risk or have special needs.

My Headstart classroom is at a public school Early Childhood Center. Our center was just cut this past year and we are serving 120 less at risk preschoolers. Last year our center served around 600 preschoolers who were at risk. I have preschoolers who are at risk, have developmental delays, Down's Syndrome, Asperger's or Speech/Language Disorders. They might be at risk, but I want to give them the best start I can. Music is one way that I can connect and reach these children. One of my children is not able to communicate verbally with us but he is able to follow the music and sign the songs.

My Project

My students need an iPod and docking station so that I can easily access their favorite songs during circle time to enhance their learning. Using an iPod, I will be able to put all my cds into the iPod. I have already organized all of my songs into themes, which I will be able to use to create playlist to go with each of my themes. I will be able to pull up any song that the children pick at circle time. I will have all of my songs at my fingertips. The docking station will allow me to play the songs for the children in an instant.

By having an iPod and the speaker system we will be able to better utilize our circle time.

By using music I will be able to teach more effectively to my children who are at-risk or have special needs. With the help of donors the children in my classroom will be singing and learning.
