Favorite Series Book Clubs

My students need 5 sets of books that will allow us to form book clubs after I read aloud the first book in the series.

My Students

Do you remember how excited you got about the books your teacher read aloud to the class? Wouldn't it be great if after that read aloud we could keep the enthusiasm for an author, or a series, going by forming book clubs with the next book in the series?

My students are wonderful third graders from very diverse backgrounds.

Our school is an amazing place where students love learning and come prepared to work every day. We are part of a very large urban public school district, but we manage to make our school feel like a unique and special place.

My Project

After I read aloud a chapter book, I always try to use students' enthusiasm to help them pick out similar books. This project will provide sets of books to follow up our shared read alouds with book clubs. Students who show interest in an author will meet with other students to share and discuss their thoughts. I can meet with these groups of students to teach them how to read the books independently, so that after they enjoy a book club that I facilitate, they can go to the library to check out more books in the series.

The best way for students to improve their reading ability is to read often.

The best way to get students to read often is to help them discover a love for reading! I choose books to read aloud to the class that I know will generate enthusiasm for an author or series. Having sets of books in the same series (or by the same author) to allow students to form book clubs, is an excellent way to keep them reading!
