My Students

I have 500 Kindergarten-5th grade students in Kansas. I try to find new and interesting ways to help my students learn using music because it is highly accessible for all students, especially those with physical and cognitive challenges.

My students love listening to music.

We listen to music to learn about music terms, styles, and genres. We even dance and learn about different cultures. My students benefit the most when they can listen to music example instead of just discussing them.

My Project

My music students need 10 music CDs, 16 different instruments, and fruit and vegetable bean bags. I will be loading the CDs onto our classroom iPods that we will be using every Friday for centers. This will benefit more than 500 students that pass through my door each week. This collection will help my students to learn about different music styles and genres while doing something fun—actively listening to music. Students will play their instruments with some of the music examples, and the bean bags will be used to keep the beat and rhythm of the music.

Your help will make it possible for my students to have a collection of CDs and instruments available that will help them learn about and make music.

The CDs and instruments will be a re-usable tool that will benefit a very large number of students. In ten years time, the CDs and instruments will be enjoyed by more than 5,000 students!
