My Students

American theater's claim to fame is the invention of Musical Theater. It also happens to be part of the 7th and 8th grade Drama curriculum.

My students come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.

Our high-poverty middle school tries to expose them to the arts as much as possible. It is very expensive to actually go to a musical, and most of my students haven't been exposed to many musicals, outside of High School Musical. And while it has it's place, there are many other musicals that they should be exposed to! Many of them think that musicals don't have much substance or aren't worth their time. I believe that the more musicals they see, the more they will be able to appreciate them.

My Project

This DVD series by PBS gives the students an overview of the rich history of Musical Theater. It includes interviews from famous actors as well as clips from hundreds of productions. It is a priceless resource for any Drama classroom. The speakers are used to broadcast the DVD on a large screen in the auditorium so that it is more engaging than a regular sized television screen.

Please help me to bring the world of Musical Theater to my students.

The DVD series will open the world of musical theater to them and the speakers will give them a chance to see if on a large screen, like in a movie theater - which is much more exciting!
