Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher a question that I am constantly faced with from my inquisitive fifth graders is, "Why do we need to learn this?" Typically, I am able to give them a response... but it would be so much more beneficial and effective if I could show them why these concepts are needed!

My students are eager to learn and really enjoy doing so.

Everyday is a new adventure for them and as their teacher I take pride in teaching them how to become effective members of society... some days that includes teaching manners and etiquette and on others it is teaching how to leave a correct tip on a dinner check. They are thrilled to know that the things they are learning in fifth grade will follow them throughout their lives.

My Project

These games will be another outlet to show my students why math concepts from fifth grade will be used throughout their lives - whether it be problem solving or determining what items to spend their allowance on. It is my hope that the students can use these games to reinforce skills on a daily and/or weekly basis during math centers.

This request will allow my students to take ownership on their education and really be able to view why math skills are a necessity in life.

Hopefully this year, instead of me just answering them when they ask, "why are we learning this?" I will be able to show them and they will have fun while learning the answers.
