My Students

"I got it!" These are the most exciting and rewarding words a teacher can hear amongst a classroom of learners who have only known failure in mathematics. My classroom is designed to facilitate these "aha" moments frequently!

My students are a special group of kids that are very energetic, active, and love debate!

These students are in the great state of Missouri, where we have recently endured the painful process of school restructuring. They are resilient, and committed to achieving at high levels, which is what I hope to do this year.

My Project

We are committed to teaching for understanding by using investigations to develop course content. This is a challenging process that requires students to think about the why behind a math skill or concept, before they utilize an algorithm. While students are struggling through answers, it is helpful to display student work, and the doc cam allow us to do this quickly. Students are then able to take this boost of understanding that is provided by the student example, and re-energize their efforts on tackling the rest of the problem! All while keeping the learning student centered, which is essential to teaching for understanding.

Conceptual understanding of material is a very important element of teaching math, and it may be one of the major causes to the math achievement gap.

By donating this document camera, you will help me keep math student centered, and not wasting precious learning time with the student re-writing their process on the board. Thank you for considering this great opportunity to impact students in Missouri!
