My Students

Do you remember someone reading to you every night before bed? Unfortunately, the majority of my students don't have books in their homes or people to read to them before bed. School is one of the only places they have a chance to get lost in the magic of a book.

I teach a self-contained Kindergarten class in a high-need, low-income community.

My students are little, but dream big! My students are creative, funny, loving, ornery, and are full of potential. They have many obstacles in their way and many of them have already experienced more in their short lives than I will ever have to experience. When our children come to school, they know they are safe and they know they will be taken care of.

My Project

The resources I am requesting will allow my students to listen to stories and songs independently during literacy and free choice centers. My students will be able to follow along with books while listening to stories. This will help with fluency, word recognition, rhyming, and many more reading skills.

My project is important because I think reading skills are so important at this age and because I think my students deserve to have the opportunity to learn by listening.

I expect these resources to have an impact for many years to come.
