My students need a boxes and bins organizational system that will easily display book titles on their reading level and a writing pocket chart to help guide their writing.
Remember when you searched through the entire library just to find that book that spoke to you? Remember how you felt when you finished? That's the same feeling my students want to have. However, due to our severe lack of organizational resources, the best my students get is a pile of unknown books.
Our school is located in the heart of the inner-city.
Daily, the students deal with a wealth of emotional and socioeconomic problems that young children should never be forced to face. School is the escape for many of these students. It's the outlet that allows them to see past their current situation into their future beyond poverty. When given the opportunity, many of my students rise beyond all of my expectations. They love to learn. They love to experience brand new opportunities. My students love new adventures, especially through books. Whenever we finish one book, they yearn for the opportunity to read more. Unfortunately for them, many of their opportunities are limited.
My Project
My students need a boxes and bins organizational system that will easily display book titles on their reading level and they also need a writing pocket chart to help guide their writing. Providing an organized system for the students to find books will encourage more reading in the classroom. Students will have the opportunity to look at the front and backs of the book more easily. This will improve their chances of finding books that are best for them to read. The more the students read, the better their literary skills will become. They will not only become better readers, but what they read will also inspire them to become better writers. The "writing process pocket chart" will help my students become more organized writers. They will learn each step of the writing process so that they may one day become young authors. Beyond this, obtaining reading and writing skills will assist them in immeasurable ways as they move toward future educational and work opportunities.
Many of my students love to read.
Others love to write. These opportunities provide a small sense of therapy in their chaotic worlds. Your donation will allow these students to step out of their current situation (even if it's temporary)into a destiny unknown to them. The possibilities are endless. This project will encourage good readers, good writers, and life-long learners.
