My students also experience challenges to their learning.

Half are English Language Learners, who are mastering reading skills in a new language! Most did not attend preschool. They need extra support developing the ability to work with their classmates and lack some readiness skills. Many have experienced trauma and need to feel safe and valued in their classroom in order to learn. All of my students want to learn and love reading. They can and will meet state standards - they just need some scaffolds to get there. Unfortunately, our school's budget has been cut once again, and we are unable to provide them with what they need and deserve.

My Project

I am asking for a variety of games to enhance students' reading development. We need phonics, spelling, sight word and other language arts games for cooperative, differentiated learning. The activities I have selected will enable exciting differentiated instruction, so that students may practice targeted skills. A "one size fits all" approach is simply inadequate for my students! I also chose games that will require my students to work cooperatively, take turns, and seek input from their peers.

Due to budget cuts and time constraints, spelling and word formation have been taken out of the classroom.

To be successful in reading and writing, one must be able to spell consistently. With these word games, students won't even realize that they are learning at all!
