My students need wood carving tools and two vices to help them learn reductive printmaking as well as reductive sculpture techniques.

My Students

Help us carve new skills. The art room in our school serves students in grades k-8 and because of the range of grades served at our school our school offers no shop or home economics courses. Our 6th, 7th and 8th grade male students crave carving tools and carving skills.

My students are low income students.

They attend a rural kindergarten-8th grade school in the desert of Arizona. The students using these tools would probably only be the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students, due to the safety concerns of handling sharp objects. However, the tools would be able to be used year to year, so the project would impact at least hundreds of kids but probably more like thousands.

My Project

These carving tools would be used primarily to teach 6th, 7th and 8th grade students the art of reductive printmaking. However, because we are requesting vices we could quite possibly even be able to learn to make some small wooden sculptures. My students would be learning brand new skills. We have a small set of 4 carving tools currently in our art room, but they are in high demand (being fought over) and are chipped from being used so much and being low quality to begin with. The tools we are requesting are very high quality, and include tools to make sure our tools stay sharp.

These tools will allow students to learn hand skills they can use for the rest of their lives.

It will offer them several new ways to express themselves visually as well. It also may inspire some students future career choices.
