My Students

Children need to experience life! Kids learn more effectively working together with hands-on activities. They need to touch, feel, taste, smell and hear the world around them before they have to face it all alone. Technology plays a major role in life experiences and is all around us in all we do.

The kids I teach live in a small high poverty area with a relatively high unemployment rate.

We are one of the last schools to receive updated technology in the district and based on how the kids interact with the technology we do get can be compared to pirates finding their long sought after treasure. We are a small school but in a tight knit community. Despite the financial burden the families (and teachers) have been faced with the pat two years, we continue to pool together our resources and work toward the technology goals we have set for our school. Last year when the district fell short we worked and raised over $10,000 through our PTO in order to provide technology for our classrooms, which still did not equip them all. Having a portable computer in the classroom will not only decrease the ratio of computers per student, but also allow that technology to become mobile and extend learning beyond the doors of the classroom.

My Project

I am requesting a Netbook (small mobile laptop) that can be used "on the go." Students will be able to research information, record data, and reflect on their experiences in a manner that does not restrict them to a classroom. Mobile technology will allow for more enrichment for Exceptional Learners from both of the spectrums and provide variety for all types of learners.

By funding this project you will be contributing to the preparation of future leaders.

It is unfair that students are expected to perform to the best of their abilities and are held accountable for 21st Century learning when the are given little or no equipment to do it with. Yet--they continue to grow, what could they do if given the proper tools to work with? Let's find out....
