My Students

Imagine simulating a mission on mars or the moon using remotes controlling a robotic arm to complete a task. My students will have the opportunity to practice what real scientists do whenever they need to explore other worlds remotely.

I teach 6 science classes of 8th graders in a South Carolina public school.

They are eager to learn with hands-on science. After I attended a NASA workshop, I realized how important robotics is in the science and technology fields. I want my students to get the feel of what real scientists do by practicing scenarios with a robotic arm simulator.

My Project

I have 3 robotic arms in the classroom. They are not enough for my classes of 26 students. Adding 4 more robotic arms will give everyone access in groups of 4. I have already seen how excited 8th graders get if they think they are acting like real scientists. I will create "missions" that they will have to successfully accomplish. These missions will be geology and space related.

My project is important because it concentrates on the core STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) concepts with fun hands-on materials that capture students' imaginations.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
