This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"If two of your favorite books met on a book shelf what would they say to each other?" Last year, using only a webcam and some clay from a garage sale, my students created amazing claymation videos. Watch last year's videos here http://book-space.com/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=726 This year: Chapter 2!

For the past 5 years, I have had the privilege of teaching 100 gifted and enrichment students at what I consider to be one of the most exciting public schools in Florida.

These students are passionate about books and want to spread the word to the entire school and community. They love using a unique medium like claymation and truly impressed me with their creativity and innovation. Several groups of my students later chose to create claymation videos that won a competition and were shown to world leaders at the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference in 2010!

My Project

Your donation will allow us to create a claymation studio in our classroom with much high resolution images and share with our entire school how books can truly come to life. We will be purchasing a high resolution camera along with enough clay to allow students to experiment and invent new techniques without worrying about "mixing the clay" or if the camera image will be too blurry.

We can't wait to share "chapter two" of our great claymation reading experiment with the school, the community and the world!

While students may not want to sit and read a 5 page book report, they are enthralled by an image of Harry Potter talking to Twilight about the latest vampire and wizard gossip. What books will the students bring to life this year? Stay tuned!
