My Students

2nd graders NEED to get out of their seats - A LOT! When I started teaching 20 years ago, schools provided every classroom with a rug or they had carpet. That's a thing of the past. Now you beg for the one Grandma has in the attic!

Our students start off the day with "Morning Meeting", something many businesses do too!

It's a chance to sit down together, make announcements, share a thought or opinion and have everyone listen. It's time to form a relationship we call TEAM. We have kids who speak English as a second language, autistic students, hearing impaired, visually impaired, those with learning disabilities, and those who excel, yet we're all one TEAM and we all know what that feels like because we start every day "on the rug"!

My Project

I am so full of energy every year. My completed projects will show you that. Very few things get me down. The fact that each year I can only afford to by the $25 carpet at the hardware superstore really rains on my parade though. I would just like to have a cool carpet that doesn't fall apart within a month and one large enough to fit my circle of friends on it. Kids hate to sit on the bare floor. It's dirty and you feel left out because you're off the rug.

Morning Meeting starts our day!

It's a must. It's like the Jedi Council, your circle of friends - the "force" is with us when we respect and share ideas. We have fun on that rug - it gets a lot of mileage under our feet while we play math games, have RACKO tournaments, sort spelling words, partner read, give presentations, meet for group research, write a story, cool off, watch a video and YES, "CUT A RUG" with some line dancing in our socks to the electric slide! We need a worthy carpet!
