My Students

Being a published author in the 2nd grade will be a dream come true with some help from you!

My students attend a public school in a low-income area of Southwest Michigan.

Currently all 12 classrooms in our building share one set of laptop computers; computers that are used daily for Enrichment classes, and therefore only available for classroom teachers two afternoons a week when the Enrichment teacher is not using them. We have access to some fabulous study tools, including an online writing journal, but because we have to share with all of the other classes in our building, my students are only able to access this program independently about once a month. Most of these students do not have access to computers at home either, so they are losing out on a great opportunity to enhance their education through technology.

My Project

The first time I introduced Junior Writer, an online writing journal program, to my students, a hush fell over the room. "You mean we don't have to use a pencil to do our writing?" "Can we do writing like this every day?" Their increased enthusiasm is contagious. They are eager to write when it is time to pull out the computers. There is just something about interacting with the computer for today's students that can't compete with pencil and paper! With your help, my students will be able to practice reading and writing skills online with a program designed to provide instruction at each student's individual instruction level - all on a new, reliable computer!

I have seen the difference computers can make in students' attitudes toward subjects they struggle with - they are willing and eager to try.

My students want the opportunity to learn through technology-based learning programs, and they need your help to do so. Your donation may help to create the next "Bestseller" you pick up and read in a few years!
