My Students

Isn't it amazing how far our schools have come in terms of technology use in the last couple of years? Now, more than ever, we live in a technological age. Luckily, I've found that my students strive when the are given the opportunity to incorporate technology into their learning.

This year I will work with a class of 23 third grade students.

We are all a part of a metropolitan school district with quite a bit of diversity, at least as Indiana is concerned. Currently, about forty percent of the students are on free and reduced lunch, while the whole school receives free breakfast. More specifically, my class is comprised of students from Africa, Asia, and Mexico, as I teach all of the ENL students in third grade. It is my privilege to work with these students every day. I've found that our differences help us to create a stronger classroom community than you would even expect with students from the same background.

My Project

At the beginning of the school year each student in my class will be creating their own blog on the educational blog website, www.edublogs.org. My students will use their blogs throughout the year to communicate with fellow students and parents. Weekly we will put posts, which may include, but is not limited to responses to teacher questions, experiment feedback, and writing pieces. With the flip videos my students would be able to post videos of their experiments or even class speeches. Parents will then be able to view videos of their students learning and progress within the classroom.

My hope for this project is that two things will happen.

First and foremost, the students will gain a since of pride in their accomplishments, but also that parents will feel as though they are a part of their child's growth and development.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
