My Students

Do you have an opinion or idea to share? Students blog about questions they have, things they've learned, and changes they want to make.

Our school is located in a smaller rural community with a fairly high poverty rate.

Our school is a Title school and is structured as self contained classrooms grades 4-6. Many students are active in sports and 4-H activities outside outside of school. The nearest large community is two hours away.

My Project

Netbooks will give students the opportunity to write for an authentic audience on a weekly basis. They will be able to express their ideas using a class blog tool, and also to be able to read what their classmates are writing. Technology will provide the forum for discussion and engagement that motivates students to want to write and be read.

Access to technology for writing motivates students to reflect on their learning, express their opinions, and engage in meaningful conversations with each other.

It will provide a safe forum for them to learn and share ideas. Standardized testing in effect closes the computer lab for over half the year. So, just when students are getting comfortable and excited about blogging, the lab is unavailable to us. Having netbooks will give us access to this forum the entire year.
