My Students

“Practice is the best of all instructors” --Publilius Syrus (Roman author, 1st century B.C.) "We need to make less copies" --Administrators across America :) So, how do we allow our students to get the practice they need and save paper at the same time? It's time to think beyond the copy machine.

I teach Kindergarten in a low-income district that is watching every penny in its ever-shrinking budget.

I teach two Kindergarten classes (between 40-50 students total). Many of them come to Kindergarten with no preschool education. Some cannot write or recognize their names when they come for their first day of school.

My Project

Learning to write properly takes a lot of quality practice. In addition to being very costly, using paper and pencils for all of this practice is not very Eco-friendly. I am asking for lined individual white boards, and dry erase markers for each of my students. With lined white boards, I will be able to make sure that my students get the quality practice that they need to master their handwriting skills. The students will be able to use the boards for other subjects, and they can use the markers in other learning centers in the classroom. In addition, the dry erase boards will be used for future Kindergarten classes.

The white boards are something that is new and engaging for most of these kids, and I believe it will be a real asset in making sure these kids are ready for 1st grade and beyond.
