3-D Printing for Environmental Justice

Help me give my students a 3-D printer. My Green Team and Environmental Science class will use the printed to develop solutions to the many environmental problems that we experience in New York City.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are college-bound Brooklyn students who love science and learning. My 11th graders are hard-working; they often go to class all day and then go home to watch siblings, work, or do hours of test prep and homework. They are extremely driven and caring. They speak up for what they believe in, especially when their family and friends are not being treated fairly.

Our school is defined by its sense of community, and when surveyed, students consistently report that their teachers will go the extra mile to show them that they care and that they feel welcomed and valued.

My students come from a variety of places, speak many different languages and have a wide variety of abilities, aspirations, and interests. Yet, their goals are the same, to build their skills and feel proud about their work.

Teaching in Brooklyn for the past 7 years has been challenging, but also extremely rewarding. Having 100 students and 3 subjects to teach is exhausting, but at the end of the day, my students impress me so much and motivate me to do everything I can to provide them with a quality education.

My Project

My high school students love any opportunity to do hands-on learning that is relevant to their lives. With my 3-D printer, I have been able to make their learning tangible, and engage them in innovative activities. Some of the things we created were field sampling tools, a watershed model, and fidget toys for active students. Seeing the impact these tools had on my students has

I have a 9-year-old 3-D printer that has finally printed its last project, and I would like to replace it to bring this amazing technology back into my classroom.

As an environmental science teacher, we learn about problems that aren't always tangible. Picturing how water flows through a city versus a forest is difficult, but can be brought to life with 3-D models. I want to open up career opportunities for students by allowing them to design their own green technologies and bring them to life. My Green Team has just created a garden, and we would be able to 3-D print durable signage to teach visitors about the pollinators we hope to attract.

There are so many possibilities with a 3-D printer, help us bring them to life!
