My Students

Do you know how frustrating it is when the school's computers are too old to take advantage of most web 2.0 tools? In my classroom technology and 21st century skills are highlighted. I want my students to gain the knowledge they need to succeed and be prepared for their futures.

My 6th grade students love to learn using technology.

Being a student in my classroom means learning using computers and technology. Each student creates a wiki for an online personal portfolio of their writing, we use podcasting for book talks, and we use other web 2.0 tools for learning. Students are eager to use technology instead of using worksheets, boring texts, and taking notes. The use of technology creates an exciting learning environment that prepares students with the 21st century skills they will need when they enter the job force. My students attend a rural, budget strapped district in Wisconsin. The computer lab's computers and the work computer in my classroom are almost ten years old. I want to keep introducing new technology to my students but the computers are unable to run most of the new web 2.0 tools. Without a new work computer my students will miss an opportunity to further embrace technology in their lives.

My Project

The digital age is no longer in the future but it is here and now. The more technology my students use in my classroom today, the more apt they will be able to successfully compete for the jobs of the future. The classroom work computer will give my students the chance to use the latest web 2.0 tools. This technological ability will give my students a chance to practice and master 21st century skills such as collaboration, inquiry, and communication. These skills will help my students prepare for the technological age and beyond.

I am lucky my students love to learn using technology and continually ask to me incorporate even more.

The confidence and pride my students display in their online portfolio wikis, podcasts, and other technological projects will be because of your generosity. Please help me provide my students with the resources necessary to help prepare my students with skills they will use for the rest of their lives.
