This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first request on DonorsChoose.org was for big books for my classroom. That was 2 years ago and those books are being put to good use, but having more would be greatly appreciated.

I teach in a very high poverty elementary school in Texas.

Most students receive free or reduced lunch. I have had many students who live with multiple families in their home, or that come to my class from the local shelter. School is an amazing place for them to discover, learn, and feel safe.

My Project

I am requesting a set of 5 big books dealing with diversity and multicultural ideas. My class last year was 21 percent African American, 29 percent Caucasian, and 50 percent Hispanic. I would love some books that celebrate cultural differences and similarities. I have also selected 2 book kits that are theme packs with props and materials to act out the story. In the past we have acted out the story and pretended to be the characters. Having props for these stories will enrich the acting out experience.

I remember the awe of looking up at a giant book as my kindergarten teacher read to me.

I can't wait to increase my collection and provide these great stories to all of my future students.
