This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"A frog! A frog! A frog! A frog!" Coming across a living thing on the playground elicits a response similar to the ice cream truck's arrival on a hot July day. My students are amazed by living creatures. While we live in a rural area, they rarely get the time to watch them. That needs to change.
My 2nd grade students come from apartments to farms and everything in between.
Their experience of nature varies greatly, but they share a common fascination with living creatures. Most of my students are minorities coming from a variety of economic backgrounds, and we are a high-poverty school. Our teachers do their best to offer opportunities for our children to explore, investigate, and wonder about the world around them. We like to think that our rural school is their launching pad into the future!
My Project
The interdependence of living things is part of our new Science standards. While flowcharts, graphic organizers, and pictures can tell the facts, setting up and caring for living things in an aquarium and terrarium will literally bring the lessons to life! These classroom habitats will enable my students to investigate life cycles firsthand; to question, study, and research how plants and animals interact. We will be able to cover a wide variety of Science standards all year long.
Your donation will bring nature into our classroom and provide genuine experiences for my eager students.
They will have lasting memories of real, live Science from our habitat studies, and make connections all year long that will last a lifetime!
