This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Being picked on in school is not fun for anyone. Every year I watch students call names, make fun and intimidate other students for various reasons. I want to address this problem in my classroom through literature.

My students live in an inner city section of New York.

Our school is one of the few really safe places students have. Many students even stay after school to avoid the streets and/or a difficult home life. I want to give my 8th graders the chance to read a book that teaches them an important lesson that they will pass on to the younger students in the school.

My Project

I want all my students to feel safe in my classroom and create a no bullying zone. The book "The Bully" is about a boy who has to face a bully and the problems it creates for him. This book is really the perfect selection for them to read because it is accessible for my students. The entire unit will be based on the book and students will create various writing assignments based on the book. Then they will present the anti-bullying message onto to the younger students.

This book will make a difference in the entire school by creating a chance for students to explore the issue of bullying.

As 8th graders my students set the tone for the 6th and 7th graders and they need to show them that bullying is not acceptable.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
