We Need a Listening Station in Our Classroom Library!

My students need a listening station and books with CDs for the station.

My Students

Do you remember having a special record or tape to listen to with a book? My students would love to have this experience as well! I remember loving books on tape when I was a young student. Listening to other readers read fluently can actually help a struggling reader improve their own fluency.

I work in a high poverty urban school where our students do not have the opportunity to have many books, or CDs to go with those books, to use at home.

Our schools are lacking the ability to give students and teachers these resources in the classroom, although they can have a great impact on student learning. Since we are lacking the ability in our high poverty area to obtain these resources on our own we would love to bring more items to them to help them learn and grow--otherwise they may not have an opportunity like this ever.

My Project

The books I've included with the listening center requested for this project are some of my students' favorite books--The Giving Tree, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Magic Tree House, and Curious George. By including their favorite books it is my goal to excite them even more about reading by giving them the opportunity to read along with their favorite books. This project also includes a cd-cassette player for the books on CD along with four sets of headphones to be used with the CD player. Overtime, I plan to add more books to our listening station on my own.

In order to excite my students even more about reading, I'd love to give them a listening station within the classroom to listen to some of their favorite books.
