My Students

Have you ever read something and couldn't remember what you had just read?

Reading with fluency and comprehension is a challenge for my students.

They come from a high poverty area and reading skills are very low. I love reading and it always came easily to me. I want my students to also discover the joys of reading, which can happen if they are given the tools needed to improve their reading skills.

My Project

I was inspired by the iREAD program that uses iPods in the classroom to foster essential reading skills. The iPods will help increase fluency by allowing students to record their own reading into a microphone and listen to their recordings. This will allow students to self-correct their reading errors. The iPods can also be used for a listening to audio books. This will help with comprehension skills.

I have asked for ipods because of the opportunities they will provide for my students.

My students will be able to practice their reading skills while interacting with today's technology that they would not have access to at home. I strongly believe in using technology in the classroom but this can be difficult without funding from the schools. Using the ipods as a reading tool will help to motivate and engage my students in their learning.
