My Students

I currently teach in a non-traditional high school, located in North Carolina, that focuses highly on preparing students for the real-world and workplace/college readiness.

Due to severe budget cuts within our district, and state for that matter, supplies are hard to come by.

Being a non-traditional school, we lack the support and funding of larger high schools. In focusing on 120 kids that would have potentially dropped out of high school, we must ensure that we have the best educational equipment to not only spark interest, but serve an educational purpose. In mentioning the workplace/college readiness we strive to provide to our students, I feel as though technology is the key. Being that we offer 100% of our courses online through various sources, we must maintain this standard when appealing to our students. As any educator knows, technology is expensive. I hope that through the support of other educators and those supporting education, I am able to bring future opportunities to my students.

My Project

With the help of donors, I look forward to teaching my students the purpose of blogs and how to document their learning experience within the classroom through photography. With this Sony Cybershot, and the appropriate accessories, my students could utilize the two classroom Netbooks to create videos and also Ustream with other students. By providing the opportunity to collaborate to maintain a class blog, I feel my students will gain a sense of ownership in the classroom and have a stronger desire to use technology in their own personal lives.

With the help of educators, and supporters of education, it will make it possible for my students to have an interest not only in education, but technology as a whole.

By preparing students for careers and the workplace, and connecting these skills to their education endeavors, I feel that I would be able to provide my students with a complete educational experience and prepare them for their successful future.
