This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you want to keep the next generation from making the same financial mistakes as this generation? That requires education, exposure, and practice with sound financial decision-making.

My students come from a high poverty area in New York City, and their parents don't understand the banking system.

Most of them use only cash and high-fee check cashing facilities to cash checks. We have developed a partnership with a federal credit union, and they will provide bank accounts to all of our students and their parents for free, and help teach our students about personal finance.

My Project

The LCD projector and flip video camcorder will be used by students to create presentations so they can teach their parents and families about banking and creating and maintaining good credit. Not only will they benefit from learning about personal finance, but they will be able to help their families break the cycle of poor financial management.

The presentation skills they develop will be used in many other classes and in the future when they are in their careers.

Teaching is also the best way to reinforce the information they were taught on maintaining a healthy financial life. These resources will help them learn skills far beyond the personal financial skills, but the power of persuasion and education. It will also raise their self esteem as they are able to help their families.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
