My Students

My students are challenged when it comes to reading and math. I am a special education teacher and have a goal to provide an avenue for children to successfully learn to read. Students will learn to associate sound to form words. Students will learn to use books as a tool to become creative.

My students are Special Education students ranging in age from the 2nd grade to the fifth grade.

They are Learning Disable children. They have many challenges in reading, spelling, writing and working math problems. The goal is to teach them to read and to complete math computations.

My Project

I have requested books with CD's, books on tape, phonics games, word games, long/short vowels cards, writing materials, as well as math activities. These materials will allow hands-on experiences to support students' skills in literacy and math. They will have the opportunity to not only read books along, but to listen to the stories being read by tape of CD. These experiences will teach and help them to learn new words, listen to how words are phonetically sounded out and have fun reading. They will learn to express ideas through writing and acting out and roll playing.

This project is important because these materials will aid in promoting reading and math and will encourage students who are challenged in many academic areas to believe that they can learn to read and have fun learning.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
