My Students

I love science and am looking forward to bringing it alive for my students. Having exciting (yet durable!) posters to use while I explain the fascinating machine called our body will help visual learners relate the heart to the circulatory system.

My seventh grade students are a wonderfully diverse group; all colors of the rainbow and all levels of learners.

My school is a "magnet" public school in the middle of the projects so every day is different in the challenges and excitement that arise. I have students who have never been to a museum nor listened to a heart beat. They will benefit greatly by having visual materials so that they can see exactly the human body part I am explaining and relate that knowledge to their own body, including how to properly care for and maintain their health.

My Project

My students need to learn about the human body but I need diagrams and posters. This set of 12 will help. I am a new science teacher taking over an empty room. I want to introduce each poster individually and then post it in the room for review and integration purposes as we learn more and more about the human body. At my school, seventh grade is focused on learning about themselves, their digestive and circulatory systems for example. I would like to offer extra credit for individual students who can name all of the parts of the poster, and these posters have lots of great details! I would also like to build projects around the posters such as having the students create rap songs of the muscles that they then record and add beats and play games such as how many items can you remember when introducing a new poster. With 14 posters total, I will be able to create projects that build upon prior knowledge such as superimposing the nervous system upon the respiratory system.

By having posters that my students see every day, I can help them integrate their building knowledge.

I won't have to flip between slides. I'll ask Anna to point out the heart on the circulatory system while I discuss how hormones influence the heart rate (fight or flight response). Visuals learners will see them almost life sized. Hands-on learners will be able to trace them with their fingers as these are quality, laminated posters able to handle middle school students learning styles.
