My Students

The book Caps For Sale is one of the most beloved stories that kindergarten students read! The bright illustrations, silly story, and patterned text make the book accessible for a diverse range of learners.

I have the pleasure of teaching twenty-two excited, motivated, brilliant kindergarten students in Northern California.

Despite a wide range of backgrounds, all of my students share a common love of reading. They devour texts and cannot wait until they too become readers.

My Project

With your help, we can show these fabulous young thinkers that they already are readers! In this proposal I am asking for 25 copies of Caps For Sale (and one larger teacher size text) so that each child can have a copy of this special book in his or her independent reading book box. We will engage in "emergent storybook reading" which will help the students to read the story before they have the skills necessary to read conventional text. I will read the book aloud several times and then they will "read" it to themselves and their reading partners. Through this instructional method, these students will be immersed in storybook language supporting their English Language development as well as strengthen their identities as readers!
