Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our state standards for teaching math have just changed drastically (for the better)! Now instead of trying to teach dozens of skills each year, we are focusing on mastering only 3 of them. This means I need to be able to go into these topics much deeper and I need help to do that!

I teach and live in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Oregon.

I believe it is the best job in the world! Many of my students are English Language Learners. One of the areas they often excel in is math because there are fewer language barriers. My students are motivated and excited to learn about math. We love to challenge other classes to math competitions (and we hate to lose)! My students know they are college bound even with the significant hurdles they have already at such a young age. Each of them is preparing to be the first in their family to complete college.

My Project

Our state math standards changed a lot this year. We used to cover many topics lightly, now we have just a few to master. I think it will be a good change. Unfortunately it means that my teaching materials in those few areas are not up to the challenge. If you can help us get the tools I need to help them with algebra skills you will be helping to make a difference for not just my students but for their families as well. The tools we need for algebra are: Order of Operations flash cards (for practice), MathShark electronic games for working in groups on our skills and competing for fun and "Wrap Ups" to help my English Language Learners with their Algebra vocabulary.

Your contribution will help us improve so many lives.

My wonderful students and their families came to this country to contribute to our nation and improve their lives. All of these resources will be used by other students for years to come and will help these students through two years of math instruction with me. Thank you for your time and donations.
