Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Students live in a world today with technology expanding so fast! Our way of learning is expanding too! I want to purchase a video camera for my students to video themselves reading. Being able to see and hear themselves read, would be very beneficial for ELL and emerging 1st grade readers!

My students continue to amaze me each and every new year!

They come from so many socio-economically disadvantaged homes and most do not have the resources needed or the extra time spent with them that is needed to help them excel in reading. They are very sweet children who need just a little extra love and support. Over half of my students speak Spanish, which definitely creates a language barrier. English is a hard language to learn and it is often easier to learn by hearing others speaking it or seeing yourself and others speaking it. I want all my students to excel in school as well as in their lives, and this project will aid in breaking the language barrier and assist them in our goal to excel!It will also give them hands on experiences with technology that they may never get in there lives.

My Project

I love encouraging my young 1st grade students to be outgoing, enthusiastic, and even creative at times. We create a lot of “Readers Theater” style plays and perform for the class every Friday. However, they never get to see what their play looks like, or how they sound or look. My main goal for this project is to have them videotape themselves while performing so they can see, and hear themselves reading. It is my hope that each time we perform, the students will become better at reading and be able to speak English better, with more intonation and inflection in their voices! It is also my intention to allow them the advantage of learning new technology,using new technology, and create many wonderful I-movies, and podcast! YES! I am so... excited!! It is going to be another great year!

I am extremely aware of the tough times that lie ahead for everyone however, my students have truly weathered a storm!

Our town recently had a tornado rip through leaving many of our families without basic needs. I am hoping for a very generous donor to help us fund this fun and beneficial project to some outstanding little ones who are very deserving and who will benefit from this experience greatly! PLEASE help put a little more excitement back into these little ones steps! TY
