Young Leaders Need Leveled Readers

My Students

Having an opportunity to be exposed to all of the wonderful things in life may never happen for some of my students. Visiting beautiful places and seeing different cultures, trying new foods and living in luxury, may continue to be just a dream. Reading can make some of these things possible.

My students are elementary students who strive to be leaders on a daily basis.

They are thoughtful, kind, and very curious. Curious to see if the goals that we have set together will actually get them to college and beyond. Their leadership skills have made it possible for them to overcome the statistical worries that surround them on a day-to-day basis. They attend a K-8 school located in in Wisconsin where they know that they must learn whatever is put in front of them because someday they will need to utilize it.

My Project

My students will benefit from using the resources by participating in small reading groups, independent reading, and writing workshops. They will learn about written expression, culture, and exploration. I had the opportunity to take a writer's workshop this summer, and I noticed how the instructor had so many books to display and refer to. I would love to have access to even a fraction of the materials that she had. The benefits of being able to read a variety of genres opens the doors to students' imaginations.

Since our school does not have a library, these books would mean a lot to us.

It's very difficult to see children that want to learn, but the resources put limitations on them. Having a class library would not just encourage my students to read more, but I believe it would assist our entire community. Our future depends on how well we educate the leaders of tomorrow, and this is a great opportunity to become involved.
