My students need two video camcorders in order to become the masters of their own education through reflections and teaching other students in South Africa!

My Students

You have the profound opportunity to inspire the students of not just one but two schools on two different continents! My diverse population is in need of flip video camcorders to become the producers of their education, while influencing and strengthening a foundation of education across the globe!

Experience is everything in this world, so we are trying to make the most of it!

In continuing my own education and growth as a teacher, I have come to realize that the best way to learn is to teach and in a hands-on way, especially for my special needs population and advanced students. I would like to strike out and push myself harder by spending more time allowing my students to notebook their predictions, experiences, and reflections. Not only will they learn and grow with each other, but different students can be recording their group experiences each day. This hands-on approach will engage all students and build lessons upon each other in both math and science topics. Reflections will deepen as students reach new real-world connections. Then, my students can become the masters and share experiences with teachers and students in South Africa! Not only will we be teaching each other core curriculum, but we will be connecting globally in the fields of science, math, and technology.

My Project

Over 13,000!! That's how many books we collected last year and sent to our new partner school in South Africa. Our partner primary school is located in South Africa and with the assistance of Global Literacy and my partner teacher, we were able extend our own knowledge and strengthen new bonds across continents! We established pen pal letters and even connected with charitable publishers to create a poetry anthology between the students of two school. Now, we want to take it another step further to reach out in Science and Math. My fifth grade class and I will work to gather materials that are easy to find in South Africa, or can be shipped, and demonstrate different experiences with force/motion, matter/energy, and space while extending lessons into mathematics, such as graphing data in line, bar, circle, and steam and leaf graphs. We will also be discussing area/perimeter/volume while recording data and writing to hypothesize and reflect. I am requesting 2 video camcorders.

As a nation, we stress the importance of responsibility and the standards in education.

Communication and roles of engaging interaction are at the root of establishing students' desire to take responsibility for their education. Through video diarists who will be the students themselves, we will draw on real-world experiences in the classroom. Lessons will be building blocks upon each other to reveal truths in math and science of yesterday, today, and tomorrow in not one, but two schools!
